The President chairs council meetings, handles internal affairs, and is chiefly responsible for the council’s adherence to the SUMS constitution.
The VP Executive is the record-keeper of SUMS, the 2nd-in-command during meetings, and carries out the instructions of the President. He or she also acts as the liaison between SUMS and the editors of The Delta Epsilon, and, together with the VP Social, is responsible for the upkeep of the SUMS Lounge (Burnside 1B20).
The VP Academic is responsible for “obtaining old examination papers and tutorial materials, arranging guest lectures and aiding Department activities of an academic nature where student support is indicated” (Constitution). The VP Academic acts as a intermediary between students and the Math & Stats Department, including its professors.
The VP Social plans all social activities hosted by SUMS, including parties, merch sales, and collaborations with DIM. Together with the VP Executive, he or she maintains the SUMS Lounge (Burnside 1B20).
The VP External (Science) sits on the SUS General Council, and the VP External (Arts) sits on the AUS Legislative Council. Both vote on issues according to the interests of Math & Stats students and SUMS.
The VP Finance is responsible for the fulfillment of invoices, the management of financial records, the procurement of grants and funds for SUMS, and submitting the Society’s budget.
The VP Communications advertises events hosted by SUMS, manages the email list, and maintains the Society’s presence on social media.
- The Honours and Majors Representatives provide members with information about graduate studies, organize midterm and final tutorials, and represent Honours and Majors students’ interests at the Department’s CUA meetings (Committee of Undergraduate Affairs)
- The Minors Representative assists the VP Social upon request, and represents the interest of minors students.
- All Representatives pursue the same program as their constituents.
